The embroidered tablecloth, bought in Jacob’s Market, Cardiff, in 1981, and dated ‘1917’, was made by WWI military casualties recuperating at the hospital. It includes the names of numerous staff and soldiers there at the time. It is now preserved at St. Fagan’s Museum of Welsh Life, who has kindly agreed to display the tablecloth).

Fantastic exhibition! Well done to all the volunteers and organisers in putting together such a wonderful collection of artifacts that demonstrate the different roles the hospital has undertaken over the last 100 plus years. The themed rooms were particularly good and the WW1 section, including Nurse Lynne wearing her authentic WW1 uniform. I must admit I hadn’t realised that she had been practicing that long!

The staff photos section was quite moving given there were quite a lot of people who are sadly no longer with us.

Hopefully a good home can be found for all the treasures you have collected.

The 11 March 2016 was a really Special Day for me. To reunite with old (very old) colleagues from 1948 was only part of the Occasion as members of the Historical Society were more than kind to this old body, and the tea and cakes an added bonus.
As for the exhibition: Old memories revived – so many thoughts evoked. I’m glad I wore my Whitchurch badge as it seems as though only a comparative few were issued, I treasure it much more than my State badge.
I wish that I had tuned into this site before, because as Gwawr knows, I still have many papers and documents from my nurse training days. Maybe my family will donate them to St. Fagan’s Museum after I’m dead!
I wonder if any (or all) of the photographs taken in the dining room might be published here? I’ll keep looking, anyway.
    Regards, Eve.
