    Both epilepsy and syphilis were still treated in Whitchurch when I trained in 1948-1951. There was at least one case of GPI. A suspected ‘open’ syph was admitted late one shift and I failed to ‘gown and mask’ when I bathed the woman. I worried when syph was confirmed but perhaps it was the amount of Dettol I put in the bath water that prevented the disease affecting me!
